Welcome to the Kennedale Rotary Club !
Kennedale Rotary Flag Program
Honor your Country while you support your Community
This event is the primary fundraiser for the club, the city's only civic organization. Your generosity helps
fund educational programs for Kennedale youth, food and clothing for underserved local families, and
international humanitarian projects such as clean water, hunger relief, disease prevention and literacy.
With your $50 a year donation, beginning on Memorial Day 2020, we will deliver an
American Flag curbside to your property on six holidays. Following each holiday, we will collect, clean
and store the flag and standard to preserve the flag's integrity.

- What i

New to town 8 years ago and Rotary seemed like the best place to start. My Father was a long-time Rotarian. I worked for him in college, and watched him walk out the door every Wednesday for a noon Rotary meeting. He loved it and faithfully did service above self as a livelong practice. Following in his footsteps does not even seem possible--he left huge tracks. But considering his legacy, that is where I want to be.
2. Who had the biggest impact on the person you have become?
My Grandmother "Gram-Gram" Gertrude Hodde was a praying, active, faithful, volunteering, bright lady. I admired her so, spending time each summer with her. She would always tell people, "Susan is tall like her Gram Gram." Being adopted, I looked like no one, but she always made me feel like I fit in, like I belonged. She took me to sing with her in the choir. Never has my voice been thought of as anything that resembled good, harmonious, or musical, but she wanted me with her in the loft, with choir robe singing the part. I've named my mini-van after her, "Gerty." As a proper woman, "Gerty" was never a nickname she endorsed, but in my heart she was warm as sunshine.
3. Name something you would like to accomplish BEFORE you die.
Seeing my grandkids be happy, healthy and launched in life; ride in a hot air balloon; write a book; solo on banjo
4. Where is the most beautiful place you have been?
Molokai island, traversing down the sea cliffs to the leaper colony during whale season. Breathtaking. This planet has so much to offer, and we in turn should offer back our best.
5. Vocation tell us about your work.
I am a licensed clinical social worker who specialized in trauma and anxiety, with special training in a type of psychotherapy called Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, known commonly as "EMDR." It is a robust therapy that addresses the bio-psycho-social-neuro-physiological-immunological reactivity the body experiences during crisis and trauma, allowing for trauma resolution. I have the privilege of working with 1st responders, military, civilians, individuals with difficult childhoods, people who have experienced a variety of incidents, addictions, and traumas. I'm a Certified EMDR Clinician, an Approved Consultant and the Regional Coordinator for the DFW West Regional Network.

1. What brought you to Rotary? Rotary values align with my life's compass.
2. Who had the biggest impact on the person you have become?
I have had a few mentors in my life, most have let me down. However, the two biggest teachers in my life have been my God and my father. God is the ultimate teacher, sometimes to my demise. My father taught me about being Puerto Rican, about standing firm in my beliefs, about not sugar coating my response, and how to stand firm in adversity.
3. Name something you would like to accomplish BEFORE you die. U.S. Senator. My facebook extension is jeff4senator :)
4. Where is
master the most beautiful place you have been? This is a hard one. I have lived all over and travel often. Each place has a quality that I enjoy but there is no place like Texas. There is something to say about the summer in Colorado, the trees in Georgia, and the beaches in California.
5. Vocation tell us about your work. I own TechXperts.guru, a one stop shop technology firm. I offer repairs, websites, and online marketing. I started this business with one thing in mind. To serve.
6. What is your guilty pleasure? I have a few. I love strategy roleplaying games and I love-love a semi-frozen coke.

1. What brought you to Rotary? During my last year with the Kennedale Independent School District, I began attending Rotary meetings. I was drawn to the camaraderie among individuals in the community whom I admired. The motto, “Service above self” reflected the family values with which I was raised. The more I learned about Rotary, the more I realized that I wanted to be affiliated with this organization.
2. Who had the biggest impact on the person you have become? My father had the biggest impact upon the person I have become. He was magical in so many ways and larger than life. At 6’2”, he was a remarkably thoughtful, gentle soul with a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. He always took me to Sunday School (didn’t miss a Sunday for 13 years) and afterward to a little restaurant called the Blue Circle for a soft drink (a real treat for me). When I talked, he stopped whatever he was doing to listen to me. We would go on Sunday rides with the family and he would point out to whomever was in the car the beauty all around us. He was very grateful for the people, the surroundings, and the things in his life. He had special ways of making that gratitude known.
3. Name something you would like to accomplish BEFORE you die. I want to obtain my master gardener certificate and I want to finish the repair on my home after the foundation disaster a couple of years ago.
4. Where is the most beautiful place you have been? Depends upon how one defines beautiful. Sometimes it is the scenery. Sometimes it is the people. Sometimes it is the artwork. Sometimes it is in the movement. I see beauty almost everywhere in ways that are incomparable, thanks to my Daddy.
5. Vocation tell us about your work. Since I retired from public education last year I have been involved as a volunteer with an organization called RESULTS. This organization envisions a future without poverty and advocates for federal legislation that can impact that future. Most of the issues we address involve public health and education. Although there is a national arm of the organization, I work with the global arm. This Friday, I will be attending a RESULTS Seeds of Hope dinner in Houston honoring Dr. Ricardo Nuila (perhaps one of the most amazing men alive - google him). The following week, I will be attending a dinner at the home of a fellow RESULTS member in Dallas and the guest will be Mohammad Yunus (a Nobel Peace prize winner for founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance). Such good things being done by so many people. Additionally, I am in the process of completing my training to become a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children in custody of the state.
6. What is your guilty pleasure? Probably clothes and having someone clean my house.
